Lubz Base Information
A boating holiday in the heart of Mecklenburg means getting back to nature... Lübz is a lovely little town whose centre dates from the Middle Ages. It is also the starting point for canal boat hire in the Mecklenburg and Brandenburg region - one of the most beautiful boating holiday networks in Germany. With 15,000 hectares of forest and 33 lakes spread over 54 km2, the Lübz area boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in the region. The River Elde has just 17 locks over 180 km meaning that within 5 hours cruising you can reach Lake Plau - one of the largest in the region with a 300 km nature reserve on its north bank... a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers ! After travelling around 60 km and crossing several lakes you’ll reach the town of Schwerin, the capital of this region and boasting a famous castle and other well-known attractions. The pretty little port of Lübz is close to the town centre and well-known for peace and quiet. On site you'll find all the sanitary equipment you need plus a few shops nearby... If you like local markets, make the most of your stop to visit the stalls set up in town every Tuesday and Friday.
