Best road trips in Europe:

A road trip is a brilliant way to explore the beauty of landscapes and to get a glimpse of superbly scenic stretches. Spectacular sights, beautiful towns, fine food and rugged coastlines make Europe one of the best places to go for a road trip. Besides, the road connectivity between the different countries makes it all the more convenient to enjoy a great road trip in Europe. You can easily visit multiple countries in a single trip.

Sounds exciting! Isn't it?

So, are you ready to embark on a road trip to Europe? Listed below are the top spots in Europe that make for a great road trip with their diverse terrain and scenic beauty.

france

   France:

A road trip in France gives you the opportunity to drive through different altitudes through the beautiful French countryside. Rolling hills dotted with vineyards, fine food, world-class wines and more! The beautiful, unforgettable routes in France are meant for everyone - family, history buffs and food-lovers. Just think Paris, Nice, Monte Carlo or the wine regions of Bordeaux and Beaune.... Skiing in the Alps, follow the route of the Tour de France France or research the history of World War I battlefields.... Or what about the Route Napoleon? This is the route take by Napoleon in 1815 on his return from Elba. The road was 'christened' in 1932 and winds it way from the French Riviera along the foothills of the Alps. All the watched by statues of the French Imperial Eagle? But how to see all this ? France is one of the best priced countries from which to rent a car. We represent all the major car hire companies like Avis, Hertz, Alamo, Natonal, Citer, Enterprise and Europcar and we will take into consideration your requirements, compare all companies and then offer you the best deal. If you want a car for more than 45 days or if you want to return in another country, a tax free car lease could be more cost effective as the one way fees to drop off in a country other than France are high. Additionally should you need to include travel in Eastern Europe or need winter tyres, then again a tax free lease would be the way to go as rental car companies don't allow travel to Eastern Europe or have winter tyres. We represent Renault, Peugeot and Citroen. Ask us and we will compare and give you all the options which could end up saving you thousands.

italy

   Italy:

South Italy is considered to be one of the best vacation destinations in Europe. A drive through Amalfi coast will present a beautiful view of the stunning architecture of Italy. Or visit the ruins of Pompei.... Or the Blue Grotto on the Isle of Capri.... The thrilling roads in Italy allow you to explore snowcapped peaks, beautiful coastlines, lakes and valleys. You can also take a tour from Rome to Venice through UNESCO World Heritage Sites. See the art of Michaelangelo, the Duomo in Milan , the Vatican in Rome or gawk at George Clooney's villa at Lake Como.. A personal favourite is Civita di Bagnoregio. Please google it. The hanging villages of the Cinque Terre are a tourist favourite even though we do recommend parking at one end and then taking the boat one way, which calls in at all the villages and then training back to the start point. A day you will truly enjoy.

britain

   Great Britain:

Vibrant cities, diverse landscapes, scenic villages and country lanes, there is so much to watch out in Great Britain. Britain offers great sights that you just cannot afford to miss while on a road trip to Europe. When I think of Britain, think Bath, Stonehenge or Oxfordshire to walk in the footsteps of Inspector Morse. Beautiful scenery abounds...take a boat cruise on Lake Windermere in the stunning Lake District - The A591 from Keswick to Kendal being nominated as one of Britain's most scenic drives. Try and visit Grasmere, one of the poet Wordsworths home and it also has a very small gingerbread shop with really nice gingerbread that I can personally attest to!. Scotland has stunningly remote and beautiful scenery. Just take warm clothes in cooler months. Walk the hallowed turf of St Andrews and pass through Edinburgh or hunt the Loch Ness Monster! Near Glasgow, head to Falkirk, passing the Kelpies and gawk at the boats lifted on the Falkirk wheel. Take in more stunning scenery in Wales - Port Meiron comes to mind or Snowdonia National Park... or what about the White Cliffs of Dover that one sees so often in movies or the stunningly beautiful Cathedral in York. So many places, so little time will be your lament!

portugal

   Portugal:

The incredible architecture of Portugal will leave you spell- bound. With a coastline of around 500 kilometers, you get to admire the gorgeous beaches and breathtakingly beautiful cliffs. A shorter distance between great locations makes it easy to make the most of your time here. Think about - the Unesco listed Duoro Valley and the N222 from Peso de Regua to Pinhao. This 27 km road including a heart pumping 93 bends to contend with and incredible scenery. Or travel from Salamanca to Lisbon via Guarda... a very mountainous and historically fortified regions where you can see the ruins of the Castelo Bom and Castelo Mendo and Celorico da Beira which offers a great iew of the Mondego valley. Visit the Bucacao Forest which contains species from all over the world. After you have paused to take in Lisbon , continue to Sintra where you can see the incredible Pena National Palace

ireland

   Ireland:

The scenic beauty of Ireland is simply captivating! Its great diversity gives you the chance to explore scenery, culture, history and more as you move through undulating hills and drive across peninsulas. Consider the very scenic Giant's Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland. It encompasses many tourist sites like the seaside towns of Portsteward and Portrush and the tasty Bushmills Distillery. A one way trip of around 200 kms . Or drive the lovely sounding Copper Coast. It's a drive between Dungarvan and Tramore in Waterford along the southern coastline with just gorgeous outlooks. The drive is around 45 kms... Or what about the Sheeps Head Peninsula? Its only around 40kms long starting in Bantry and looping around the peninsula finishing in Durrus. You can take in the whole peninsula as its not very wide, so you get great views of the ocean on either side.

austria

   Austria:

The myriad of opportunities to experience make Austria a great destination for travelers. The country is full of natural beauty. You get to drive through an ever-changing landscape, hills dotted with pine trees and flowers, rocky cliffs, meadows, lakes and glaciers.

Highly recommended is a scenic drive to Grosslockner, Austria's highest mountain at nearly 4000metres. Great view, great National Park. From the park entrance you have 48kms of high alpine road ascending 2500metres with plenty of curves, bends and switchbacks. So a fund drive with great walking and hiking opportunities.

Or drive around the many beautiful lakes of Corinthia or visit the North Tyrol including Lake Achen and the resort town of Kitzbuhel, a world renowned ski resort.

germany

   Germany:

When you decide to drive through Germany first think of what interests you as there are over 150 themed routes from which to choose.... Think 'the Allgau Cheese route' which would go well with the Baden Wine Route. Prefer beer? No problem, we can offer you the Beer and Castle Route... for desert... the Black Forest Panoramic route and if you're tired after all that....the Black Forest Spa route should have you refreshed in no time! Other famous routes include The Romantic Road, The Saxon Steam Railway, the route of Kings and Emperors. For details of these visit the German National tourist office website. If you prefer to visit by places you've come to hear of, think... Neuschwanstein Castle, Brandenburg Gate, Heidelberg Castle, the Berlin Wall, or the lovely Lake Constance....But when I think of Germany, I must confess to thinking of Bratwurst and Beer and the Oktoberfest....but that is a whole other subject.

switzerland

   Switzerland:

Switzerland presents a unique blend of amazing cultures and natural beauty. The mighty Alps and pristine lakes along with the rich culture make it a great location for an adventurous road trip. The Big One of course is the St Bernhard pass which is the 3rd highest road pass in Switzerland and 2470 m above sea level. Or combine the high road with some scenic viewing....Drive the Susten Pass, 2260m above sea level which also has a 300metre long tunnel. Stop and visit the Stein Glacier . Or do you recall the James Bond movie, Goldfinger? It featured the Furka Pass. So drive this route and visit the Rhone Glacier Ice Grotto. Hope its still there when you visit as the glacier is constantly shrinking and moving.

spain

   Spain:

There is much to see and do in Spain! Make sure you do not miss this country and your trip to Spain is sure to help you build wonderful memories. Stunning architecture, fascinating landscapes and of course, the great seafood in coastal Galician towns! A road trip through this country will surely be a delightful one.
